Historical Monuments

The theme this week at Our BeautifulWorld #71 is Historical Monuments.

There are a number of historical monuments in and around Geelong so I had great plans for Saturday.  Unfortunately I woke with a migraine.  Then my lovely husband came home from visiting his mother in Ballarat and he had taken some photos for me.  What a sweet man.

The first photograph is of the Olympic Games Monument at Lake Wendouree, at the end of the rowing course.  In 1956 the Olympic Games were held in Melbourne.  The rowing and canoeing events were held on Lake Wendouree, Ballarat.

This is the Olympic Creed.

The second group pf photographs is the Memorial to AustralianPrisoners of War.  Again at Lake Wendouree, Ballarat.

Take care and thank you for visiting.

Seeds

Today is Father’s day so I am preparing a special lunch for my husband of all his favourites.  For dessert he likes strawberry and passionfruit Pavlova.  This fits very well with the cue from Our Beautiful World.

I have used passionfruit seeds to decorate the pavlova.

It looks like it is going to be another lovely spring day.  This is the type of day to be out in the garden.  I spent last weekend gardening with my little dog keeping watch from a nice sunny spot and the girls, hens, assisting me.  They even clean my shoes.

Spring is the magpie swooping season.  They never bother us or my dog but they swoop the hens.  I was bending to pick something out of the garden last weekend and one of the magpies swooped right over my back to get to the girls.  It was so close I felt the rush of air.  It’s not just the hens, it is all birds.  When the magpies are around they won’t let any other birds in our yard.   Once the babies are hatched the swooping will stop.

Enjoy your weekend and thank you for visiting.

Gate

The theme this week at Our BeautifulWorld #61 is Gate

Brandenburg  Gate

This is an early morning shot of the very famous Brandenburg Gate.     The Gate is as impressive, perhaps more so, in person than it is on the news.  It is a wonderful symbol of unity and peace.  I took this photo a couple of years ago when I visited Berlin.

Take care and thank you for visiting.

Aromatic

The theme this week at Our Beautiful World #59 is Aromatic
Stocks on the hall table
Buckets of flowers outside the florist.  The jonquils looked very pretty but I find their perfume too strong for indoors

Wednesday was a lovely sunny day and as I was walking past the Red Poppy florist  when I caught the scent of stocks.  It reminded me of the cue word for Our Beautiful World this week.  I bought a bunch to take home.  On the way home my car smelt wonderful.

Ros asked if we had a favourite aroma.  I like the smell of fresh brewed coffee in the morning, fresh baked bread and home cooked curry.  I like working in the garden with all the aromas, each season is different.  I like it when I am in the bush after rain.  The smell of eucalyptus is so fresh and clean.  Ros also mentioned how fragrance can invoke memories.  Lavender makes me think of one of my mother’s aunts.  When we went to stay with her the bed linen always smelt of lavender.  Another is a particular male fragrance reminds me of my first boyfriend.  Also when I smell beer brewing I remember backpacking in Germany.  This is because one of the Youth Hostels I stayed in was very close to a brewery

My weekend at the film festival was fantastic!!  I left home at 7:30am Friday and arrived back home at 1:30am Monday.  I was very tired but had enjoyed myself enormously.  There really wasn’t a bad movie amongst them.  Some of the best were Jack (German), Queen and Country (British) and A Girl At My Door (Korean).  I also saw the first two episodes of a new mini-series coming to Australia, Devil’s Playground.  It’s a psychological thriller and I will certainly be watching the series

Take care and  thank you for visiting.

Time

The cue word this week at Our BeautifulWorld #57 is Time.

I took this photo on a trip I did in 2012.  It is of a medieval astronomical clock located in Prague.  Not only is it an amazing piece of technology it is very beautiful.

This piece of music for clarinet shows it is played in 4/4 time.

Woodland

The theme this week at Our BeautifulWorld is Woodland.
I live in a coastal area where there isn’t much woodland.  So on the way to visiting my mother I took a slight detour to the small historic town of Steiglitz.  The town was one of the richest goldfields in Victoria but today it is a virtual ghost town.  It’s in the beautiful Brisbane ranges and is surrounded by bush.

My husband is very interested in this topic.  He is an historian and has written on industries in some forest in Victoria.   I asked if he would mind sharing some of his photos and he obliged.  Some of these photos are his and some are historic

This photo shows the bed of an old tram track

This is after a bushfire in the Wombat Forest.  Most of these trees will grow back.

I love going out into the bush,  particularly after rain.  I just love the smell then, it's so beautifully fresh.

Have a lovely weekend and thank you for visiting.

One

Last week on Our Beautiful World they were celebrating their first birthday with a BLOG HOP and the request was for photos of us when we were one (you still have time to link up). The theme is continuing this week with the cue word being ONE or 1.

Work has kept me busy this week so last night I had nothing.  My husband brought out some athletic ribbons he had won as a school boy.  They were for first place.  I wasn’t sure if this would count.

So in desperation this morning I photographed the first page of a book.  Do you know how many books don’t put one/1 on the first page?

Then shopping in a lovely French themed shop and I saw this clock.

And finally the first thing I saw in the supermarket was this stack of flour.

Have a lovely weekend and thank you for visiting.

Scavenger Hunt - June

I have been popping in and out of Made With Love photo scavenger hunt for a while but have never been able to complete the challenge in time to join in.  I still missed one item and due to work commitments wasn’t able to post this any earlier.  So I hope it is okay to enter?

B is for Bridge

My Aunt's old clock

Spoon
Found at the Castlemaine Renovator’s Barn

Puppet
My son's old Sooty hand puppet.

You again.
Earlier in the year on my way to work I would see this decorated bike.  It was such a happy object I came to look for it.  Then it disappeared.
Three weeks ago I saw it again.

Soccer

Steam
This was a fail.  I thought it was going to be the easiest but now I have dozens of photos of kettles but no steam.

I have enjoyed getting out finding the objects and so has my little dog.  All the new places and smells to explore has been doggie heaven for him.

Many thanks to Greenthumb.

Thank you for visiting.
