Life Update

I haven’t been on line for quite some time.  That’s because it has been such a good summer.  The weather has been so fabulous that I have spent a lot of time outside in the garden.

We almost have the vegetable garden the way we want it.  The vegetables we harvested this past season didn’t live up to my expectations but they never do because I always picture a cornucopia.  We did well enough because the next step from growing is cooking and I have been very busy in the kitchen producing dishes to freeze.  It’s been great fun cooking the old favourites and trying new recipes.

This year I have been propagating my own plants.  The first thing I do when I get up of a morning is to check the seedlings, just like a doting parent.  Pathetic right?  We had success with a new (to me) plant, a Trombone zucchini.   I picked the last of them yesterday.
The Trombone zucchinis are the pale green vegetables.  The dark vegetables are the ordinary zucchinis.  You can see my sunflowers and marigolds in the background.  This bright cheery patch was the first thing I would see when I came out my backdoor.  You can’t help but be happy when you see those flowers.

My husband has constructed two wickering beds at the property in Colac.  That is to keep the plants watered even if we aren’t there on hot days to do so ourselves.

We have also been attending gardening workshops at St Erth, Blackwood (approx 90km from Melbourne).  During the gold rush Blackwood had a population of about 13,000.  Now it is probably about 300.  St Erth is a homestead built 1863.   It is now part of the Diggers Club which is committed to sustainable gardening and heritage seeds.

Blue

The theme this week at Our BeautifulWorld #72 is Blue

Saturday had rolled around again and I had no ideas for the cue this week.  Then I remembered an egg cup my mother had since she was a child.  The base is dated 1925
I had a breakfast date with a friend and on the way I saw this nice display in a dress shop.

As usual our breakfast lasted almost until lunch.  In our defence this time we hadn’t seen each other for quite awhile and had lots to share.  I was telling her about the OBW blog and the cue for this week.  She told me of a shop near her called Blue Suede Shoes.  The name took my fancy so after lunch off I went.

In the afternoon as I was pottering in the garden I remembered this drinking tray I had made for the birds.
I have also planted some blue flowers because I heard they attract butterflies.

To finish here is a wool bombed car I saw while I was at the film festival earlier this year.
Well that's it for today, take care and thank you for visiting.

Historical Monuments

The theme this week at Our BeautifulWorld #71 is Historical Monuments.

There are a number of historical monuments in and around Geelong so I had great plans for Saturday.  Unfortunately I woke with a migraine.  Then my lovely husband came home from visiting his mother in Ballarat and he had taken some photos for me.  What a sweet man.

The first photograph is of the Olympic Games Monument at Lake Wendouree, at the end of the rowing course.  In 1956 the Olympic Games were held in Melbourne.  The rowing and canoeing events were held on Lake Wendouree, Ballarat.

This is the Olympic Creed.

The second group pf photographs is the Memorial to AustralianPrisoners of War.  Again at Lake Wendouree, Ballarat.

Take care and thank you for visiting.
